Mohamed Toure Discusses Transfer Speculation and Exceptional Start at Norwich City

Mohamed Toure, the striking force for the Socceroos, recently shared insights about the transfer rumors that surrounded him leading up to the deadline, but insists that they haven't deterred him from his excellent start to the new Championship season.

During an appearance on Football Friends with Ben & Stef, Toure discussed his progress and impressive goal-scoring form since moving to Norwich City from Randers in January. He’s notched 14 goals across all competitions, with 12 scored in the Championship alone—a testament to his burgeoning prowess in front of goal.

“It’s great to be honest,” Toure admitted. “It’s a good club. The stadium is always full, and the fans have been amazing. Since coming here, I’ve felt nothing but love.”

His performance speaks volumes: following a striking goal in a 3-1 victory over Sheffield United on September 5, his scoring average stands at one goal every 75 minutes. Toure harmonizes on the field under the guidance of head coach Philippe Clement, who has played a pivotal role in his development. Toure credits his scoring evolution this season to Clement’s coaching, particularly emphasizing the need for precision in finishing. “He mentioned to me that I needed to place the ball in the corners,” he said. “That’s how you ensure the goalkeeper has no chance.”

While many young players would be flattered by transfer interest—reported inquiries came from clubs including Hull and Porto—Toure remained steadfast in his commitment to Norwich. “There were some truths,” he disclosed about the rumor mill, acknowledging that several teams had approached his agent. However, he emphasized that his happiness remains with Norwich. “If they want me now, they can wait,” he noted, suggesting a maturity in handling the pressure of external expectations.

Reflecting on his experience at the World Cup, where he felt underutilized, Toure admitted, “Of course, I didn’t play as much as I would like,” but maintained that the tournament was still a fantastic opportunity. “It was great to play in a World Cup—it’s an experience not many get to have,” he said, reiterating his desire to carry that momentum into his club performances.

Having adapted to the demands of the Championship, Toure finds solace in the frequency of matches—an aspect he believes helps alleviate the sting of poor performances. “When you play a bad game, there’s another one right around the corner,” he explained, revealing the mental advantages of quick turnarounds. This approach enables him to move past any shortcomings swiftly and maintain focus.

Despite rumors, Toure was rested for Norwich's impressive 2-1 win over Birmingham City, an important decision given that this was his first experience of playing three matches in a week. His resilience will soon be tested again as he prepares to face off against Erling Haaland and Manchester City in the third round of the EFL Cup.

As Toure continues to evolve, his aim is clear: to improve consistently. He appreciates constructive feedback from Clement, indicating his desire to keep pushing limits. “When I score, the coach still wants more from me. He wants to make sure I don’t settle and keep striving to improve,” he stated, underlining his ambition and work ethic.
